MBALE DISTRICT LAUNCHES UGX 213 MILLION ROAD WORKS

The Mbale District Roads Committee has today concluded the launch of road works worth UGX 213,008,000. The two-day event was organized by the Chief Administrative Officer of Mbale District Local Government, Mr. Luke L.L. Lokuda.

According to Mr. Lokuda, the event is meant to create awareness among the community on projects that the government intends to implement, to enable them to supervise the works. ‘Launching of projects enables leaders to be transparent and accountable to the people by detailing the cost of the projects and scope of works such that at the commissioning ceremony the community can appreciate what the government has done but also prevent conflict during implementation’, he said.

The launched road works were 5 roads located in the 4 subcounties of Bufumbo, Bubyangu, Bukiende, and Bungokho

The implementation of the mechanized maintenance works will commence on the 19th May 2025 and will be funded by the Uganda Road Fund (URF) and the Road Rehabilitation Grant (RRG)

The 2.7km works on Kama- Buzalangizo road in Bufumbo will include restoration of the road cumber, desilting of culverts and drainage opening and will be implemented with funds from the URF to a tune of UGX 19,320,000.

The 4km works on the Bunawozi-Madenge road in Bubyangu will include grading to restore the road cumber, desilting of culverts, drainage opening, and spot graveling and will cost UGX 87,000,000 from the RRG

The 7.06km Mulatsi-Bukiende road works in Bukiende will cost UGX 23,688,000 from URF and will cover grading to restore the road cumber, desilting of culverts, and opening of drainage.

The 3.1km Burukuru- Bumamali road works in Bukiende will cost UGX 8,652,000 from URF and will cover grading to restore the road cumber, desilting of culverts and opening of drainage channels.

While the 3.0km Nashikhaso- Namawanga road works in Bungokho will cost UGX 83,000,000 from the RRG and will include grading to restore the road cover, construction of a stone semi-arch bridge at Nerima swamp, installation of concrete culverts, spot gravelling, drainage opening, and desilting of culverts.

The launching ceremony was attended by the area members of parliament, the office of the Resident District Commissioner, District Internal Security Officer, District Chairperson and his executive committee members, the District technical team and the Subcounty leadership all of whom called upon the community members to desist from activities such as sand mining and blocking of drainage channels that will lead to quick deterioration of the roads.
